Asbestos is a bigger problem than you may think but it's also easier to manage than you may think

It is a bigger problem because it was used so widely, it can still be found in over 3000 different building and engineering materials, some of these materials have been used for many different applications which makes it difficult to resolve in a short time.

It is fairly easy to manage because most materials are either safe to begin with (they are holding the asbestos fibres tightly trapped) or they are not at great risk of being disturbed (high level or remote pipework etc).

In all cases asbestos should be left alone and managed, removal should only be carried out for the following reasons: It is badly damaged and cannot be repaired (its almost on the floor), it is regularly damaged by normal use of the building (fire doors or low level fire protection boarding), it is likely to be disturbed by planned refurbishment, installation or demolition work.

Many business clients are wary of having a survey carried for several reasons, they are concerned in case they have to spend lots of money having it removed, or having their business shut down because it's dangerous, even just having a survey carried out can make the workforce worried and anxious.
